If you need to file a  report that a theft has occurred, please call the Sheriff's Department at 260-244-6410.
 

If you need to request a copy of a theft report that has already been reported, the fee for a copy of a theft report from the Sheriff's Department is $.10 (ten cents) per page.  

 
A copy can be picked up in person during regular business hours (M-F 8am-4:30pm), at the Sheriff's Department Office, located at 101 W Market Street, Columbia City. Feel free to call ahead (260-248-3171) to see if the report has been completed and is available, and how many pages the report will be. It is recommended that you bring the correct amount of money ($.10 per page), because we do not keep money for change on site. We do not accept personal checks. 
 
If you wish to request a copy by mail, please call ahead (260-248-3171) to find out how many pages are in the report. Mail a certified check or money order for $.10 per page, made payable to "Whitley County Sheriff", to the: Whitley County Sheriff's Department, Attn: Records, 101 W Market Street, Columbia City, IN 46725. You will need to include a self-addressed, stamped, regular sized envelope so the report can be returned to you. Please include a written request for the report that includes as much information as you have available. We need to know the date the theft was reported, the time of day, who reported it or the name of the victim, the location/address where the theft occurred, the case number, etc.
