How often are the parcel maps updated?
Once the parcel splits are properly recorded and received in the auditor's office. They are usually drawn in the GIS system within a week.

I was born in Whitley County, where do I go to obtain a birth certificate?
The Whitley County Health Department, Vital Records division, maintains records for persons born in Whitley County. Written applications must be completed and identification is required of the applicant whether by mail or in person.
What is the cost of a birth certificate?
The fee is $10.00 cash or money order, no personal checks for each birth combo certificate consisting of a half sheet and a wallet size. Money orders must be made payable to the Whitley County Health Department.
My name is spelled wrong or my birth date is wrong on my birth certificate. What can I do about it?
An amendment can be filed with the local office for correction. Two documents, at least 10 years old and a picture ID must be presented to confirm the spelling of the name. An appointment is necessary.
I was born in another state, but my adoption took place in Whitley County, so why don't you have my birth record?
Even though a person was adopted in Whitley County, the record is maintained in the county/state of birth.
All of my identification was lost/stolen/destroyed and I need to get a birth certificate to establish identity. Yet, I am required to present proof of who I am in order to obtain my birth certificate. How can I prove to you who I am?
Under these circumstances a member of your immediate family may be eligible to apply for your birth certificate by presenting their identification.
What is the cost of a death certificate?

If a person has lived all their life in Whitley County and is buried in a Whitley County cemetery but died in another county/state, why don't you have the death certificate?
Death records are recorded in the county/state where the individual expired, no matter where he/she lived or is buried.
When is my ticket due?
Your due date is 30 days from the date on the bottom of the ticket.
Why do I have to pay Court Costs on my traffic ticket?
Court Costs are part of the ticket price and are mandated by the State of Indiana.
What if I can't pay my ticket or need an extension?
You will need to write a letter to Judge Michael Rush and mail it to 101 W. Van Buren St., Columbia City, IN 46725. The clerk's office does not have the authority to modify your due date.
The date on the bottom of my ticket says it is a court date, is this true?
No, the date on the bottom of your ticket is NOT a court date. You just need to pay your ticket by your due date or you can set up a court date if you choose to deny your ticket.
What if I was cited for more than one offense?
You are only required by Indiana state law to pay Court Costs once per traffic stop, therefore, you will need to contact the Clerk's office at 260-248-3103 for the amount of your ticket.
I received a Child Restraint Violation, what do I need to do?
If it was your first Child Restraint Violation, you do not need to pay the $25.00 fine, you only need to fill out the Child Restraint Violation Agreement and mail it in by your due date.
What happens if I don't pay my ticket by the due date?
If you do not pay your ticket by the due date, a $25.00 Late Fee will be applied and your license will be sent for Suspension to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Where can I register to vote?
You may register to vote at a variety of places: your county voter registration office, your license branch or public assistance office.
How do I register to vote?
You only need to fill out a simple form (VRG-7) that asks for name, address, birth date and voter identification number. It also helps us if you list any previous name or address you have used on a former voter registration. Optional information includes telephone number and email address. You can get the form at your Voter Registration Office or on this website.
What is my Voter Identification Number as required on the voter registration form?
The voter identification number is your Indiana driver's license number or Indiana identification card number as issued by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. If you do not have an Indiana driver's license or identification card, then you would provide the last four digits of your social security number.
When must I register to vote?
You can register to vote any time of the year. However, to vote in a primary or general election, you must be registered at least twenty-nine (29) days before that election. A mail-in voter registration application must be postmarked at least twenty-nine days in advance of that election.
What do I do when I move?
On a voter registration form, check address change and fill out all the information, including your previous address. You can use a mail-in form or do this in person at your county voter registration office. It is very important that you do this so that we can cancel your old voter registration.
What do I do with my voter registration card?
When you receive your voter registration card, sign it and keep it to present at the polls on Election Day.
Am I registered as a certain party?
No. When voting during the primary election, you will be asked to pick a ballot of your choice (Democrat or Republican). This is to elect the parties candidate for the general election. The choosing of that ballot does not declare you as a Democrat or Republican.
Why can't I speak to the Judge directly?
In order for the Judge to remain impartial, he cannot hear one side of the case without the other side present.
What should I do if I'm the victim in a case?
Keep in contact with the Prosecutor's Office and the Victim's Advocate. They will keep you informed of how the case is progressing.
If I have an attorney, can I file motions on my own?
If you have an attorney, private or court appointed, the filings presented to the Court must come from your attorney.
I have written a letter to the Judge, but I haven't received a response?
Many of the letters the Court receives are from family members of defendants and cannot be addressed by the Court. Those that are received from defendant's themselves are addressed either by entry, the Court setting a hearing, or if the defendant is represented by counsel, the letter may be referred to counsel.
What should I do if I can't make it to a hearing?
If you know you are going to be late for a hearing, call the court and tell them when you expect to arrive. If you know ahead of time that you will be unable to attend a scheduled hearing and need to request a continuance, you must do so in writing, and you must notify the opposing party of your intention to request a continuance. Phone calls for continuances are not accepted unless it is an emergency situation.
What if I can't afford to hire an attorney?
If you find that you are unable to hire an attorney and need the Court to appoint an attorney to represent you, you must make that request in writing. The Court will then set a hearing to determine if you are indigent for purposes of appointing counsel.
I think I missed a court date and there may be a warrant out for my arrest. What should I do?
If you think there is a warrant out for your arrest, you should turn yourself in to the Sheriff's Department as soon as possible. If it is a civil case and a body attachment has been issued, you should turn yourself in to the Sheriff's Department.
Can I appear by telephone?
Hearings may be held over the telephone only with consent of the Court. Requests must be made in writing in advance.
What if I have questions about my case?
Procedural questions may be answered by either the Clerk's Office or the Court. At no time can any member of the Clerk's office or the Court give you legal advice. Only an attorney may advise you and you may be told to seek the advice of an attorney.
What if I need extra time to pay my probation user's fee, pay my restitution, pay my fines and costs, complete my community service work?
All restitution payment arrangements are made with the Prosecutor's Office - you should contact the Victim Assistance Advocate. If you are on probation, you should contact your probation officer to request an extension to pay user fees, fines, costs and complete community service. If you are not on probation and wish to request an extension to pay fines and costs, you may write a letter to the Court.
