  • A Sheriff Sale is the sale of real property. The mortgage provider has filed suit with the Court because of nonpayment of the mortgage. The Court orders the Sheriff to hold a public auction offering the property to the highest bidder, as part of the Court's process.
  • If you are looking for information on a Tax Sale, you will need to contact the Treasurer's Office at 260-248-3105. The Sheriff's Department is not involved in Tax Sales.
  • All sales are held at 10:00 a.m. on the date shown on the list above, unless otherwise indicated.
  • If you are the successful bidder, all sales are full payment, due the date of the sale, payable by cashier's check or money order, immediately following the sale.
  • In order to place a bid, you will need to bring with you a letter from your bank or financial institution that states that you have a specified amount of money available to you within a 1-2 hour timeframe.
  • The judgement amounts are listed on the Sheriff Sales list available on our home page. The judgement amount is NOT a bid. It is the amount the Court has awarded the Plaintiff as owed. The Plaintiff (the mortgage provider foreclosing on the property) may bid considerably more or less than the judgement amount.
  • The Sheriff, the Sheriff's Department, and/or the County of Whitley does not guarantee that the addresses or judgement amounts are correct, valid or complete. The list provided is a COURTESY ONLY.
  • If you are interested in bidding on a Sheriff sale property, please keep in mind that the property is AS IS. There are usually not door keys, garage door openers, etc., available to the successful bidder.
  • If you wish to bid on a Sheriff sale property, and you are not familiar with the Sheriff sale process, we strongly recommend that you speak with an attorney familiar with Sheriff sale proceedings. There are occasions where a lien filed against the property can follow the property and not the former home owner.
